The Magic Outside Our Door...

I am passionate about art and nature, the combination giving birth to vivid watercolors portraying both fauna and flora. I paint what I know best, and feel the appeal of my work stems from a keen eye for accuracy and detail with a balanced composition. Collage elements like bits of antique maps, vintage tickets, snippets of words, threads and fabrics are sometimes included, adding texture and another dimension to pull the viewer closer to the subject.

My Early Years

From a young age I have been enthralled with animals and the natural world stemming from my parents’ respect and love of nature. This led to my self-expression through drawing and painting, developing a style uniquely my own. I am a self-taught artist, and my observational skills and knowledge of the natural world have been the catalyst in making the leap from drawing for my own pleasure to sharing my skills and making a living with my art.

My Love for Sketch Journals...

Keeping sketch journals where daily happenings are recorded is an important part of the creative process for me. Most of these sketches are done on location, helping me to understand my subject in its natural environment. It allows me to have an intimate conversation with my subject, letting it tell me its own story in its own time.

Sketching on location is also healing, meditative and a wonderful way to preserve a moment in time.

Get Outside

I hope to make people aware of the magic we all take for granted right outside our door. Favorite subjects include insects, birds and other small creatures as well as the enchanting landscapes of the marshes and dunes on the Outer Banks of North Carolina.

My images grace wine bottles, adorn clothing, stationary, home decor items, appear on cd covers and scamper across book pages and walls in both private and corporate collections.
